As we enter into 2011, the call for unity has never been more important. The Space Coast AFL-CIO is a broad based coalition of unions in Brevard county which stands in a unified voice for working families issues, justice and dignity on the job. Our work as a Labor Council is not only to build our individual union’s power but to benefit and help our entire community of working families.

In order to build a stronger organization that will continue to address, and eventually reverse, the growing gap between the rich and the poor, the Space Coast AFL-CIO must develop the capacity to simultaneously organize, manage political campaigns, increase existing membership, develop strategic alliances and contest the domination of corporate interests that influence our governing bodies.  This is not an easy task.  We have to start with our own social vision, our own strategic plan.

Claudie Pouncey, President, Space Coast AFL-CIO, Central Labor Council
